Typhoon Haiyan is hitting the Philippines and is being recorded as one of the most powerful storms in history. Haiyan’s winds are blowing at an unimaginable speed of 195mph, exceeding those of last year’s all time record holder, Super Typhoon Lekima.  In fact, this year’s super typhoon’s strength is rivaling that of Typhoon Tip, which had sustained winds of 190mph and the lowest sea level pressure ever recorded on earth, 870mb or 25.69 inches Hg.  To give you an idea of size, Typhoon Tip’s diameter was 1,380 miles, an all time record setter.

But Typhoon Tip was churning out in the Pacific.  This Super Typhoon could be recorded as the most powerful storm to hit landfall; the Philippines.  To see the latest NOAA satellite imagery loop of the current super storm, click HERE.
