Guidance Helicopters received a call from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) Monday, April 25, 2011 with a request to aid in a search for a woman and child that went for a walk from their campsite on Mingus Mountain and did not return.
The Robinson R44 helicopter was fueled and the Guidance Helicopter instructor pilots Mika’ele “Mike” Kerner and Shannon Bowman were on scene above Mingus Mountain about half an hour after receiving the phone call. The Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Unit from Flagstaff arrived on scene shortly after.
The search area was divided between the two crews with the Arizona DPS helicopter, known as “Ranger”, under the direction of the YCSO. After an hour and a half, the DPS Ranger found the woman and child in their sector in good condition and provided direction to the Verde SAR to meet them.
Guidance Helicopters remained on scene until the woman and child were safely in the hands of the Sheriff’s Office. Guidance Helicopters and crew were not only happy to help but were very happy that the woman and child were found.
