On Friday June 26th and Saturday, June 27th, imagination and dreams were aloft as both the Girl Scouts and the Yavapai Big Brothers/Big Sisters organizations were provided access to an extraordinary helicopter experience at Guidance Aviation (GA) of Prescott, Arizona.
On the Friday, the Girl Scouts, enjoyed “Discover Aviation Camp”. This camp is in its 17th year under the leadership of Arizona’s own Stacy Howard, Western Regional Representative for the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).
Saturday June 27th, Yavapai Big Brothers and Big Sisters also visited Guidance Aviation’s flight training operation to take a tour of the facility, talk to helicopter pilots, and experience what it is like to fly state-of-the-art helicopter flight simulators. Flight Simulators that are manufactured in Northern Arizona by X-Copter.
“This is an experience that makes the kids go wow, I didn’t know I could go to school for this and become a professional helicopter pilot,” said Dave Roy, Director of Safety and Communications, Guidance Aviation. “It shows our local high school students that there are some incredible educational programs and careers right here in Arizona.”
The Girl Scouts visit Guidance Aviation every year. The Discover Aviation Camp is supported by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA.org). This annual camp is spearheaded by Stacy Howard, Arizona resident and a leading aviation advocate for the state. This is the first time Yavapai Big Brothers and Big Sisters (AZBigs.org) has visited GA, and from the looks at the kids’ faces that day, they’ll be back to fly the simulators and discover the careers available to helicopter pilots.
