I started the flight program before I could utilize my Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits to cover any of my flight training costs and kind of came to a bit of a cross-roads.
Luckily Guidance Aviation was teamed up with Yavapai College and I could use my Chapter 33 benefits to finish off my CFI and CFI-I ratings and end up working here (Guidance Aviation) as an instructor pilot. I’ve been working for Guidance Aviation for 3 years now.
This program’s great because about 85% of the program’s made up of Vets so when they (veterans) come through we treat them as a cohort.
I tried to join the Army and fly for them. It’s a very lengthy process so when I got out I decided I wanted to fly for the civilian world. Guidance Aviation provided me that opportunity using my GI Bill®.
From here I’d like to go on to some forest fire fighting operations, maybe some EMS work later on. That’s the goal for me.
You know each person has their own goal and Guidance Aviation was the first step and is the first step for each and every one of us on how to realize that goal.
I never thought I'd achieve my goal of flying helicopters. But, the Marine Corps showed me there’re no limits, and Guidance proved it.
…you Start the program with 30 other student pilots. By the time you get to your CFI semester, a lot of the instructors and other employees around Guidance—they start to become what I would consider my family.
At the end of the day, it's a great feeling to feel like you're a part of a family rather than just another number going through the cycle.
I chose Guidance Aviation after walking through a couple of schools. The choice was clear.
It was a far better laid out program with a definitive path and finish line. Coming from the military and law enforcement worlds, I needed that structure. I just do better that way.
