When will I start flying?

Collegiate students start flying approximately two weeks into each semester.

Non-collegiate students students start flying immediately.

What ratings will I receive through the program?

You will earn 4 ratings through this program. These ratings are Instrument, Commercial, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFI-I).

What classes do I have to take in addition to the helicopter classes?

All helicopter students in the degree program must be pursuing the AAS degree while taking helicopter classes. The AAS degree includes 15 units of General Education classes.

If you’re not pursuing the AAS degree you will not be required to take any classes besides flight and ground courses.

How long is the helicopter degree program?

The degree program consists of 4 consecutive semester.

Where will the classes be taught in the AAS Degree Program?

General Education classes along with ground school classes will be taught on the YC campuses.

Flight classes will be taught at the YC facility located on the Prescott airport.

Is the program approved by the VA?

Yes, this is an eligible program for VA benefits.

How do I apply for my benefits?

Go to www.vabenefits.vba.va.gov and complete the VONAPP.

How do I pay for books and school supplies?

You must pay up front for books and school supplies out of your own pocket. Up to $1,000 per academic year will be reimbursed by the VA.

How much is my housing allowance?

The published BAH for an E-5 with dependents (the amount the VA will provide) is approximately $1437 for a full time student.

Will I be able to work while attending this program?

It is possible to have a part time job but it is recommended that students devote their full attention to the program if possible.

What are the semester start dates for the AAS Degree Program?

Spring
(January)
Summer
(June)
Fall
(August)

Is career placement assistance available?

Yes.

We will help place you in the industry upon successful completion of the degree program.

Is there an option for Turbine Training?

We offer a turbine transition course option in the Commercial semester in an R66.
