Happy Birthday Dave Roy!

A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), Prescott, Arizona, and now Director of Flight Operations and Safety at Guidance Aviation, Dave Roy celebrates another birthday this week as we recognize his contributions and passion for aviation and aerospace. With over 20 years of collegiate aviation experience, Roy started his career in aviation in 1989 when he began flight instructing at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott.  After flight instructing at ERAU, Roy went on to manage Safety, Flight Academics, Contract Training, and Flight Standards at ERAU.

In 1991, Roy took a sabbatical to complete his graduate internship with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, primarily assisting in the restoration of the B-29, the Enola Gay.

In 2003, Roy created the Prescott Air Fair Association, a non-profit 501 (c)3 organiztion which began producing local air shows.  He is past president of the Prescott EAA Chapter 658.  In 2005, Roy was awarded an Air Medal from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) for significant contribution to the progress of Aeronautics and Astronautics in connection with the FAI Education Commission.

Of course, anybody as passionate about aviation as Roy is wouldn’t be complete without something in the hangar and Roy is no exception. Dave and his wife Kendall own a Cessna 140.

More Than Just Flight Operations

cessna 140At Guidance Aviation, Roy is responsible for two flight operations: Prescott, Arizona and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  With approximately 30 flight instructors under his wing, you’d be surprised that he also is responsible for Guidance’s robust marketing program.  With attention to every detail, Roy’s work can be seen online through the company’s website and other online media channels. Additionally, Roy is heavily involved with FAA relations, collegiate contract development and negotiations, and day to day facility operations.

Dave not only lives and breathes aviation, so does his family. His wife works at Embry-Riddle, Prescott, his daughter is rated in both airplanes and helicopters, and his son works back east for a leading aerospace company.  Birds of a feather do flock together.

Our guess is that even on his day off, he is sitting somewhere, on his iPad, planning his next mission.  Take a break Dave, you deserve it!

Happy Birthday Dave Roy!
